Re: Failed Therapy

I'm gonna sound like "Capt. Obvious" here, but hang with me. I don't know if you do this, but I used to approach every new form of treatment skeptically, and I would go into it looking very hard for any evidence that it was working. And even if I found such evidence, I would brush it off o...

Re: Failed Therapy

I'm gonna suggest TMS again, imr. Maybe meds aren't the way for you to go. I know TMS has helped me and at least 2 other friends. And we were all pretty bad off before doing it. And again - no side effects, not invasive at all. I can tell that you are quite intelligent, in_media_res. Unfortunately, ...

Re: Depression/anxiety/frustration has kicked up a notch

Also, many of the things you say on this forum are things you should consider telling your wife. Everything you have said thus far comes from a place of earnestness, honesty, compassion and love. You are a great guy who is trying his darnedest! Can you see that? And don't box yourself in too much. O...

Re: Depression/anxiety/frustration has kicked up a notch

You are definitely on to something big here, Weary. I think it’s time to take that step that you’ve been avoiding for so long. Your wife seems like a wonderful, compassionate woman who can accept the things you want to say. It may be tough, but I think you need to be honest and straight forward with...

Re: Depression/anxiety/frustration has kicked up a notch

I think you're on the verge of a breakthrough, weary. The best thing you can do at this point is to stop hiding your emotions from the people who are causing you so much pain. Release it in their presence. Let them experience the full force of your emotions. Stop protecting them. They will be fine -...

Re: Depression/anxiety/frustration has kicked up a notch

I think what your therapist is saying is for you to try not to resist your feelings because they won't go away until you do. Just let them come and they'll go away sooner. Resistance is futile. It sounds counter-intuitive but it can work. You might even - heaven forbid - cry or something. Hard to be...

Re: Depression/anxiety/frustration has kicked up a notch

Cycles – there are definitely cycles. I’ve been going through another rough patch the last week or so – after the longest smooth patch (?) I’ve had in years. The cycles never end. The best therapist I’ve ever had (he was a genius - seriously) told me one of the signs that you are improving is that y...

Re: I'm terrible at introductions

And I would also highly recommend getting a dog. (Notice my avatar - that's Buster, my best buddy) Dog's give you something other than yourself to focus on and care for. They also lift your spirits greatly and love you unconditionally - as well as giving you a host of other health benefits. Another ...

Re: I'm terrible at introductions

Geez, sorry about that, man. But as I said - I am quite gifted at beating myself up as well. TRUST ME. I'm not saying you need to cut yourself off from your parents. That's why I suggested moving somewhere nearby. I still depend on my parents financially because my job doesn't pay shit. I also benef...
