Re: I pledge to quit drinking

It's been 14 months, and I'm still doing without Adderall and alcohol. Feeling good, most of the time, without the emotional highs and lows that used to characterize my feelings. I still struggle with anxiety and with unproductive avoidance strategies, but I'm in a much, much better place than I was...

Re: I pledge to quit drinking

Thanks! And here I am at the 6-month mark, no alcohol & no adderall. One of the challenges I have is what to do with myself in the evenings. There are only so many nights you can sit at home watching TV or reading. I'm not suffering from loneliness, mind you, just occasional boredom. How do peop...

Beginning of April, and I'm still feeling pretty good. No alcohol since mid-January or so. Just touching base...

Re: I pledge to quit drinking

Thanks to all who have offered encouragement and empathy. Things are much, much better than when I wrote my first post that started this thread. I talked with my doctor last fall and decided to go off of my Adderall prescription because I felt it was winding me up and stressing me out, which was mak...

Re: My career is ruined

Urgh... Is there no way to go back and edit a post? Can't seem to find one.

When I say "strategies I am trying to develop," I don't mean I'm the one who came up with them. I mean, instead, that I'm trying to develop my use of them on a regular basis in my life.

Re: My career is ruined

This! --> "You made a mistake. You're human." It's okay to make mistakes, and it's best to own up to them when they affect other people. It sounds like you did, and that's a difficult and admirable thing to do. And, boy, do I identify with this! --> "I know what it feels like to have ...

Re: Male, late 40s. Anxiety, Panic, Fear, Procrastination.

Hey, just checking back in after a few weeks away. With regard to perseverance, I had a moment of clarity inspired (in part, I think), by this discussion. Here's what happened: On 2 bike rides in a row, I managed to get a flat tire on my rear wheel. (Bicycle, not motorcycle.) And after the second ti...

Re: I pledge to quit drinking

Hello, again. I'm just touching base after (obviously) some time has passed. Things are definitely better. When I wrote my original post that started this thread, I was pretty much drinking every day (very unusual for me, and not something that had been going on for a long time). For the most part, ...

Re: I pledge to quit drinking

Thank you, Oak. Just getting a response means a lot to me, and your specific suggestions are much appreciated. One day down... Feeling pretty emotional and disappointed in myself for what feel like an overwhelming number of shortcomings and secrets. Hoping that this feeling will pass. The thing is, ...

Re: Male, late 40s. Anxiety, Panic, Fear, Procrastination.

No, I haven't listened to that episode, yet, but I will, thanks to your suggestion. :) That sounds like me, sometimes: losing patience with something I'm trying to do and just giving up or avoiding it altogether. I would like to overcome this behavior, as I think my life and work would be much bette...
