The Harvard Medical School research psychologist's recent TED Talk "The Gift and Power of Emotional Courage" went viral a month or so ago and here she sits down with Paul to talk about the human habit of judging ourselves for our feelings, how it affects us, the science behind it and how we can move away from toxic self-judgement. She also shares some of her personal life; being born and raised in South Africa during Apartheid and losing a parent when she was a child.

The interview was okay, but not really anything that reached me. The surveys were great and made the episode for me. Paul said he had a volunteer help pick them out. Great job.

I have this weird thing where even if the guest is an expert and has a lot of valuable advice, as soon as they start plugging a book or 'their system' for improving mental health in some way it just starts feeling insincere and even a bit guru/culty and I get turned off of it. I'm not accusing Dr.David of being these things, more making an observation about my own trust issues. I just feel this anxiety/itch to put as much distance between myself and the 'Four Steps to a better....' as possible. I can't help but wonder, do you want to help me or do you want to sell books? What's in it for you? I can't help that that was sounding off in my mind as I listened this episode... I guess have some trust issues to overcome lol.
