Thank you, Oak & BB. I appreciate your support. :)

On the one hand, the apartment is overpriced and not ideal, on the other hand, the deposit was low so if something better becomes available before my move date in early March I can still apply for it. I think with the condition of the real estate market where I live, I could wait the rest of my life for a reasonably priced place to open up.

The significant aspect of this is that I have committed to making a move. It seems like I've reached the point where it's better to act even if the initial results are less than ideal (with dating, living space, etc.) I can always course correct, but if I'm stuck in depression/inaction then nothing changes.

Exactly, RiverGirl. Now is the time.

Also, two words of caveat from my own experience with this from 2018:

1. It will be more expensive, especially that first month, than you anticipate. $1000 in ready money will make this easier, if not exactly convenient. $500 is better than nothing, but will add more annoyance. Sometimes having $100 ready after work on a Tuesday to buy more spoons can make the whole experience better.

2. The first 2-3 months can be a bit rough as far as adjustment, but by month six you’ll be loving it.

Put another way, lower your expectations for the first six months, and raise your hopes for the second six months. Either way, after a year of having your own bathroom and temperature settings, you’ll never want to go back.

Also, don’t let anyone move in with you, especially family, and especially “temporarily”. Don’t even entertain the conversation: just an immediate and unequivocal “no”.
