I’m sorry I mentioned suicidal feelings. I’m not in danger. I don’t want to upset or trigger anyone who hasn’t read my posts before.

In the meantime, I hope you have at least a little fun this weekend!

Hi rg :)

You don’t have to feel better to protect my feelings. Let me manage those for myself.

Meanwhile, you are going through something very difficult; specifically, breaking up with an unreliable person who happens to be a therapist; one you were trying to put trust in.

And thoughts don’t have to be suicidal to be life-and-death, or just very important to you in particular. There’s something precious that you are protecting with your life. That’s totally okay.

That’s the sense I get anyway.

Hi Beany,

I read your message about 3:30 am since I hadn't been able to fall asleep yet. I started crying when I read the first line. I think because my inability to feel better at certain times in my life has caused people to leave me (or that was at least part of the reason, or the reason they gave me).

My tolerance for unreliability seems to be lower than it used to be, but the process of letting unreliable relationships go is still very painful.

I'm not sure what I would be trying to protect, except maybe the belief that I could matter enough to someone that they would be reliable and not leave me.

Thank you, Beany.

I don’t quite know how I got here but I’ll just say this;

Your ‘neediness’ is not an obstacle to being loved.

Anyway… that’s what I tell myself :wave:

It's a little off topic, but I made an impulsive used-book purchase the other day while ordering other things.

It's called "On Being a Therapist" by Jeffery A. Kottler. Got mixed-to-good reviews on GoodReads.
(And as always, the reviews are interesting and point to other related books.)

I hadn't thought much about being on the other side of the conversation, so that's what piqued my interest when I saw the title....

Hmm, we'll see...
