Why are my PM's stuck in my Out box?

I have three messages that I composed and sent to two different users (two are to Paul), but they just sit there in my out box. I don't see them in my sent box, so I am pretty sure they didn't make it to the recipients. If you are a SysAdmin of the site, can you take a look at it for me, or any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Do they stay in the Outbox until they are read by the recipient? It looks as though that might be the case. If so, why is that? Why don't they move to the sent folder when you Send them?

Yes they stay there until someone reads them.
