Broke off first real adult relationship since...
This past weekend I ended the first real adult relationship I've had since getting treatment for my depression. Other than a brief relationship at the beginning of college, I have been single for the past 9 years. I really went through some painful periods on my own and finally got help. After some ...

Re: Alienation
It sounds like you are the one that is changing while others appear to stay the same. That must be incredibly frustrating...and I know I've left certain situations/lost friendships because of that. I think all you can do is continue on your own path and try not to worry about others (seriously easie...

Re: Narcissism
It's funny, I was thinking something similar about blog posts and twitter etc. and feeling like this was my way of saying "look, I'm so amazing! read my stuff! I'm so funny and witty" (I really do feel that way about my twitter, it's a bit strange) and I think I immediately go to narcissis...

Re: tired of "managing"
I consider myself very lucky that I was able to find a medication that helped me within 3 months...not sure how it'll go in the future...but for now, I gotta be thankful. My brain likes to make me feel horrible about the term "for the rest of my life" too, I think it's daunting to everyone...

Re: Relapse
Heart thanks for sharing...relapses in depression are so discouraging, not only to us but to the others that are trying to help us. The one time I cancelled on a therapy appt. was actually because I had been doing so well, and then relapsed and felt ashamed and didn't want my therapist to see my fal...

Re: Need so much intense motivation to accomplish so little!
I can definitely empathize with that! I'm so used to feeling miserable all the time and then I see how much other people are able to accomplish coming from worse off circumstances or whatnot. I wish our brains wouldn't automatically compare ourselves with others! As cheesy as it may be I've been wat...

Re: What made you decide to look into meds?
I seriously put off meds for years. I really was against taking them and tried therapy at first, when I was 14 and first started feeling depressed. I wasn't really ready for therapy though, I think. I just kind of managed on my own but by the time I graduated high school I had tried prozac. I took i...

Remember when I felt empowered? Yeah, didn't last...
I feel like sometimes once people know the truth about me and my depression/anxiety that it almost kills the little motivation I had to begin with. Keeping up appearances was like the only thing I had that sometimes got me out of bed. I need constant attention/praise/encouragement if I'm going to ge...

Re: Need so much intense motivation to accomplish so little!
I sometimes wish that people in my life wanted to know more about my experiences with depression/anxiety. I think it would be different to hear things coming from a psychiatrist, so maybe it would be good for your wife. And what's more, maybe you shouldn't be in the room, so she can express her conc...

Re: Crippling Indecision
Gah...I understand this exactly, as it happens to me pretty much alllll the time. Most often when it's something little like how I want to spend my free time (what movie to watch, book to read etc). With bigger decisions, I try to weigh both sides carefully, but I only feel relief in making a decisi...
