Re: Episode 312:Why Am I A Mess?My Parents Loved Me Amanda B
I thought this was an interesting discussion for those of us that don't have what we consider a "major, catastrophic" trauma but still have issues. In particular, when they really got into it (at least to me) became clear that Amanda actually does have a fair bit of trauma and simply seems...

Re: Obsessive Compulsive Rage?
I appreciate your post, and I think it gave me some ideas. It's really made me self-reflect a bit. While I don't necessarily "tell her that her beliefs are wrong," on reflection I see I can be kind of confrontational about it refusing to engage in compulsions. Not mean, just very brusque a...

Obsessive Compulsive Rage?
You may or may not have heard of the term "narcissistic rage," but I wonder if anyone else has experienced or observed rage/anger responses in people with OCD. My wife of 5 years was diagnosed with OCD early in our relationship. I have a good understanding of the disorder having grown up w...

When fate avenges you, but it's overkill
I've been feeling adrift for the past few days, unsure how to feel. Here's what happening. My mother physically (and to a lesser extent emotionally) abused me as a child. She also did a lot of things right that most mother's don't. Now in my 30s, I have depression and PTSD as a direct result of her ...

I was so overjoyed when I saw Paul show up in Dr. Drew's feed. My two favorite psych-related people on the same show! Re: Not telling the patient they have BPD
Jamous thanks for your reply and you hit on a facet of this I overlooked. It seems like a lot of people I know that have the diagnosis received it in a hospital, not an outpatient setting like talk therapy or with their GP. Maybe with in-patient they simply have to , like it's policy or required to ...

Not telling the patient they have BPD
I'm curious what other people might have heard or experienced about rendering a diagnosis of BPD. There seems to be a school of thought that when a person has BPD, the therapist and family should not tell them. I've not gotten a solid answer why though or even if this is, in our modern times, still ...

Re: Is two posts better? :D
I don't have OCD but oh my god I am surrounded by it with family. Mom, Dad, Brother, Grandma, Wife. Knowing this many people really shows you how variable the condition is, that its not all hand-washing or counting things. Every one of my family has a very different version. Dad's all about order an...

Re: Jamie Franzo
Yeah EMDR is a real thing and it's actually pretty well-regarded. I've heard Dr. Drew Pinsky (whom is a big hero of mine) suggest it for victims of trauma, and I know Jonathan Davis, the guy from Korn, had it and has talked openly about how it worked for him. Davis was a mortician's assistant and de...

Re: Mike Carano
I just listened to him over the weekend. I don't think he's in therapy yet, and he still tells stories about foolish things he does that seem ok to do until he snaps out of it. Like when he drove down to Tucsan to visit his recently widowed relative, of just deciding to blow it off and go fool aroun...
