Re: Applying for job. "Not enough": fear.
Thanks! I just got home and I have to say it went really well. I only stumbled on one question, when they asked "How would 3 friends describe you?" It wasn't the first time I've heard this asked, so I guess I should have an answer prepared for that. It's also hard for me to talk about my p...

Re: Applying for job. "Not enough": fear.
I felt good about my interview yesterday, but now that it's sunk in I'm really nervous. Turns out there's some parts of the job I technically don't have any experience in. I know I'm going to be grasping at straws to answer certain questions or maybe won't be able to come up with a response at all. ...

Re: Explaining Work History Gap to Potential Employers
I have a 2 year gap between when I stopped school and started working. It's been tough to explain to employers, so I created a white lie I can tell the next time I'm asked: Housepainting. That's what I did for those two years. Did I really paint houses for 2 years? No. Did I in fact paint houses? Ye...

Congrats on the interview! Keep us updated. I landed one myself today at our local zoo nearby. It's a place I would really love to work. It was especially a relief to get that call after another day with my boss I hate, because it gives me a glimmer of hope that maybe I won't have to work with him f...

Re: Baron Vaughn
I really liked this episode, Baron is a comedian I was familiar with, but never knew much about. I could relate to a lot of his story, and when he finally reached that cathartic moment where he talks about identifying with his mother, I felt a lot of sadness but was proud of him for being so honest ...

Re: My Boss is a dick
I'm still working this lighting job, I think I hate it. I don't like associating with my coworkers there. I don't look forward to continuing in this position, joining a union, becoming a 'roadie', and these are all goals they seem to be striving for. This fact alone is why I can't identify with them...

Re: Switching voices
Hi Eshkol, thanks for making this thread. I've dealt with switching voices a lot and still do it to this day. I think I can pinpoint the time around when it started happening, I was 4 and I would talk really soft and high pitched to get more attention from my parents, as if they would have to listen...

Difficulty showing affection
So, this morning I was making coffee and having a nice conversation with my mom when out of nowhere she comes behind me and starts crying on my shoulder. I didn't know how to react, so I asked her what's wrong. She said "I'm really depressed lately and I don't know why. I can't make it go away....

Re: Fakebook suggestion: being...genuine?
I think what it boils down to in the end is the anonymity this site provides. On facebook, I always worry about my privacy. I used to write a lot of angsty statuses, which were usually lyrics from songs. One time I quoted the Cat Power lyric "Sometimes I wish I'd never been born," which I ...

Re: Social Anxiety Sufferers Welcome!
Today I heard a knock at the door and when I went to answer it I saw that it was the parents of an old friend who I haven't seen in a decade. Noticing it was them, these people I grew up around and have such fond memories of, I froze. I didn't know how to answer the door, how do I express my excitem...
