Re: Trouble setting boundaries with parents
That's what I want to do, it's just easier said that done. I was very hesitant on the phone and raised the issues of having no vacation time and not wanting to travel with a newborn, and I was met with "Well, we want to do this for you" and "This is supposed to be a good thing."...

Re: Trouble setting boundaries with parents
You're not going to want to fly on a plane with a baby who isn't even 6 months old. Ew. That's just asking to have a sick baby. Can you suggest to your mom that you appreciate she wants to throw a party for you but that traveling that soon isn't going to be workable, and can people send gifts via th...

Hey, Oak! I've not been on the forum for a couple of weeks - work this time of year for me is six days a week and my ass is dragging. Finally checking back in. How did your last task go? How are you feeling?

Re: How do i get a proper diagnosis for depression/bipolar?
Hey Frank, sounds like you are dealing with a lot right now. I don't know if the people who told you about a DNA test are talking about the same thing, but my husband, my ex husband and both of my children have the MTHFR genetic mutation, which is only diagnosable with a specific blood test, it cost...

Your motivation to work through this list is generating some motivation in me to take care of some of my own self-care checklist items. You're doing great, Oak. Lots of jedi hugs as you continue.

Re: Dealing with Abusive Parents as They Age
I know you know that voice in your head comes from a place of hurt and trauma. You are NOT lazy. You are NOT selfish. Willful? Possibly, but I guess I don't consider that to be a negative trait! Your mom has chosen her path. Its OK if you don't go see her. Its OK if you do. You get to make the choic...

Wow, that's a hell of an intro, friend! You've had more than your share of major trauma to try to work through. Sounds like you are on a better path. You didn't say why you are going back to Oregon (or maybe I missed it). Anyway, I hope you find a great support group there, or a good therapist, or b...

Re: Doing 'work' in therapy.
I suppose it varies by types of therapy and by therapists themselves. Sometimes "work" is simply the act of discovering connections between past trauma and current pain/behavior that we weren't aware of until we talked it through or had a good therapist ask us the right questions. Sometime...
