Re: What made you decide to look into meds?
I think the first step would be to see your regular doctor for a checkup, and explain to him/her how you are feeling. Then I would work with a psychiatrist to determine what meds to go on. I had a hard time with meds the second time around until I began working with a psychiatrist. They really have ...

Re: Weight Obsession
Ugh, this is a subject I can totally relate to. My mom (who at 78 weighs the same as she did in college - we are forever hearing about her 6 am exercise class) was the "fattest girl in her 4th grade class." I was unfortunate enough to be chubby for a few years as a child and was put on wei...

NYT series on Anxiety
The New York Times is running a series of columns on anxiety:

Hint - if you read the NYT often and don't pay for a subscription you get blocked from reading over 20 articles a month. There is a way you can google around that.

Re: What made you decide to look into meds?
I went on Prozac years ago for postpartum depression. There wasn't much deliberation involved in that decision - I had twin newborns, a 3 year old, and I wasn't sleeping or eating. I had to do something to get better fast. I was also going to therapy, which I think is really important to do in addit...

Re: anxiety attacks
I have suffered through daily panic attacks - I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. What worked for me in the short term was taking Klonopin at the onset of an attack, and I would take it before I went to bed at night (when anxiety kicks in, I don't sleep and then it becomes a vicious cycle). While ...

Re: Episode 44: Mike Scmhidt
I was surprised Mike felt like he didn't have enough compelling material to share. How bout it????? I don't really know much about him but from what he said he could write a book. I really hope he does explore further counseling. I wanted to cry when he was talking about his abuse, saying "for...

Re: Nervous "Hello."
Welcome Brad. Not surprised you have suffered from depression given your family history. My husband and I had a talk about comorbidity yesterday. One thing often goes hand in hand with another. For instance he has ADD and dyslexia, and also suffers from depression and that can lead to substance abus...

Re: Happy New Year!
if I cannot will myself to execute the plan perfectly as I originally thought it, then I must not really want to succeed. Ah, the perfection trap. I read somewhere that perfectionism is a symptom of depression. My husband and his family suffer from this - lots of talk of the perfect way to do somet...
