Hi y'all

Post by shoulda »

I'm a 42 year old stay-at-home mom of 3 - two teens still at home, one twentysomething out of the nest.

I've definitely had issues with low self worth and loneliness all my life, but the in past few years I think I've sunk more into a general haze of depression. I've been to a few counselling sessions through the years, stopping ostensibly because it's hard to fit into my schedule, but really because I feel so weird talking about myself at all.

Anyway, I've just begun listening to the show, and I think you're doing a great thing here, Paul. You use compassion, insight and humor to connect with your guests, and in so doing, shine a light on issues or feelings that a lot of people can relate to.

Thanks.

Hi Shoulda, welcome to the forum! If you don't mind my asking; what is it that makes you feel uncomfortable about discussing yourself?
The purpose of life is to make it mean something.

I think it's because most of the time when I do it feels like it has caused more trouble than it's worth - things don't get solved, really, but days get ruined. That, and not having any close friends for a decade have gotten me out of the habit of discussing anything really personal. I listen way more than I talk; I lurk way more than I post. I think it's a bad habit for me, and more importantly, I have recently come to realize how bad this behavior is that I'm modeling for my daughter.

Another way kids can be a saving grace, huh?

Shoulda,

Welcome. We're glad you're here. I hope to get a couple moms on the show, I know there's lots of you out there who would like to hear something more to relate to than a bunch of white, male comedians! I'm working on it. In the meantime, welcome and I encourage you to get help. I don't think anything bad can ever come from searching for help and talking about whats going on.

Paul
