Hi, my name is Lydia.. not really but that's what I'll go by for privacy reasons. I'm 17 years old and I've been suffering from depression and self harm since I was 13 years old. I came here to start my journey to solace and recovery and to figure out exactly what may be wrong with me and how to fix it. I'll be going to see a therapist for the very first time tomorrow, actually.
I would love to get involved and support anyone on here who may need it. I hope to accomplish as much as I can and meet new people.

Hi Lydia-not-really-lydia! Boy do I relate to your life experience with the self harm-depression merry go round. I never got help for either (parents insisted it was something I just needed to get over, I think it mostly came from an increasing anxiety disorder which bothered me more than any of the other things). However, I managed to quit cutting around your age by my own determination. I didn't like how obsessed I'd become about cutting and the competition of it (you know, when cutters try to one up one another with my-cuts-are deeper, mine-are-more-numerous, unhealthy shit. Eating disorders are the same though I never really struggled with one, at least not on the anotexia-bullemia side of it, maybe on the overindulgence part.
Your therapist will first want and need to help you overcome the SI. It's very hard to get at the root of the problem without helping that first. I promise you it is possible and empowering to overcome. If you slip up, have a momen of weakness, forgive yourself and start over. Don't give up. You can do it!
