Modulation is interesting, really interesting stuff, Beany

I have to say when it came to self-help and dealing with my mind, I used to see modulation as a weakness

If I had to modulate my approach, in the past, I would beat myself up about it

Happily, now I am flexible and self-compassionate

You rock, Mister Beany Boo

I just offered someone a hug because she was clearly about to lose her shit.

I’ve never been that kind of person. I offered first and she accepted. She just appeared to be feeling very small and fragile despite all her expertise and responsibility.

It just seemed like the right thing to do.

That one hug gives any nurse the energy to carry on. Gives them hope it’s all worth it. Hugs are worth more than any currency.

Hi Beany,

I'm also not a hugger, and am sometimes uncomfortable with physical affection from other adults, unless it's from a partner. However, thinking back to what helped me through some of the worst days of my life, I can remember specific hugs better than I can remember what anyone said to me. I even remember one hug from a stranger, a checker at the grocery store who saw me struggling not to cry and asked me if he could give me a hug. He no longer works at that store, but I still think of him from time to time when I shop there.

You're a very kind person, Beany!

I don’t know if this will make face-value sense;

1. I’ve started actively not taking everything personally. It just started happening. It’s a bit of a shock to experience the difference, compared to before.

2. I’ve also spontaneously stopped hating my thoughts. Again it just started happening; if I had a thought I must hate it preemptively; not anymore. Every next thought I actively switch off the auto-hate. Again a shock to have a finger-hold of that.

I don’t know what coincided with these shifts. I was aware of me being open, to something happening without anything needing to be done. It’s a relief to witness the stuck behaviors were something I was doing and am now no longer. The one outcome I’ve noticed from it at the minute is, it makes it markedly easier to listen without judgment.

Wow, this is a seismic shift, not taking things personally and turning off the auto-hate

If even one of these things happened to me I would need to take a major break to let it sink in

Sending you good vibes over the Internet wires, Beany
