Hypercritical of myself

Post by duck1 »

Very nervous.

a lot of anxiety,

that I am a horrible person,

that in any interaction all my defects are showing and people judge me.

Does it help to visualize talking to another person instead of yourself? I talk to myself in a very mean way, so I visualize talking to my daughter when I am really talking myself through some difficult stuff. Visualizing talking to my daughter leads to talking to myself in a kind, compassionate way, and that is effective.

Please take care, all the best.

I get the same feelings sometimes. I have a lot of self hate.
One thing that has helped me over the years was something a friend told me years ago. She had problems with thinking people were talking about her until somebody told her "Look you're not that special" It helped her realize people are caught up in their own shit and don't care enough about you to be talking about you. I have to remind myself at times that people don't care enough to be judging me as much as I judge myself.
Manuel's advice is probably much better.

Hello BB,

Wanted to give this nugget in your recent post a bump up...

" .....until somebody told her "Look you're not that special". It helped her realize people are caught up in their own shit and don't care enough about you to be talking about you...."

This is really true, and helpful to remember. We get stuck in our skin with tunnel vision....

Heard recently on one of the podcasts the outlook... "I'm that piece of shit that the world revolves around..."

And I'm now doubting myself and thinking I'm the A-hole who shut down the boards... :? :(

But I thought I was the A-hole that ran everybody off.

You are welcome!

Are you feeling better today?

BTW - I've posted a couple of things on the Music thread that help me sometimes

Do you have any to add?
