a lot of emotionality

Post by duck1 »

There is a lot of emotionality in this period.
I noticed how much I am affected by people's reactions, their approval. I see how interactions that are less than harmonious leave a residue with me which affects me throughout day.
My current work and probably next work requires interactions, Inside I have my own stress of trying to be focused, while dealing with peoples reactions.

I feel like I am somehow missing fundamental regarding:

-coping skills
-attitude to life

I would love to hear some insights.

Yeah, I feel it strongly that I am just <now> at 51 years of age figuring out basic things about life. It makes me sad.

Hi duck1

From my brain to your brain I want you to understand that your thoughts have also run through so many of our own heads.
Awaiting peoples reaction to situations at any given time to figure out if your are good enough, employable enough, determined enough or even just enough.
Going into a new job we always analyse ourselves in all situations, personally it feels like being a kid again and hoping you don’t get punished by your care givers. That feeling of self uncertainty is hard to overcome. Fleeting moments of confidence then a part of our brains knock us down again reminding ourselves not to get to confident because we ain’t good enough.

I guess finding where these thoughts stem from is a good start. Hard work ahead but honestly we all understand.
You can hear all the affirmations in the world but it’s up to you to find what works for you on any given day, hour, second.

Recalling recently in therapy an overwhelming feeling of being not good enough for my own roll really deeply reminded me of being a child and not reaching my mothers expectations, that feeling of failure, not worthy of a hug or not good enough to be her daughter really permeates into adult life if it’s a common childhood feeling.

Stand proud, be proud of yourself for your new role in work and prove your negative self talk wrong. Stand in the mirror and imagine all of us behind you on your reflection giving you the nod you are enough.

When Rivergirl reached out for me on Friday I did just that, I have no idea what you all look like but I have an imaginary bunch of people whom understand things on a truthful level. I honestly don’t give two s!*#s what anyone looks like, it’s how they feel and understand that matters.

We understand duck1.

Stand proud.

Dear Mental Fairy,
What you wrote was very much to the point :

I think it is a good idea that I read it and reread it.

Thank you very much!

Hi Duck1,

I too share some of your feelings.

I’m guessing I’m the oldest person on the forum at this point, but I frequently feel like I’m just pretending to be an adult when it comes to my profession, dating, friendships, you name it!

You’re so not alone.

Sending you a hug.
