Sometimes the World is Overwhelming

Sometimes the world is overwhelming!
Too many things to think about....
Sometimes the world is overwhelming!
Too many things about which to care...
How is a person to go on living
Staying informed, but not in despair?
Bandied about by unseen forces
Hard to keep an even keel..
Trying to keep my thinking balanced,
Trying to keep my hands on the wheel.

I really understand the urge to be a hermit. But you trade mental difficulties, there's no reprieve.....
Somehow I feel obligated to bear witness to the world's suffering, even if I can't do a lot to help. Turning away might be easy, but how can you do that?
A daily struggle.... What to do?

Woke up today and the old head is full of negative thoughts and sadness.
Negative thoughts, emotionally-freighted memories, self-recriminations, feelings of inadequacy, failure, shame etc.. Hello old friends!
Is it me, or is the world an incredibly sad place? How to stay informed and engaged, and yet maintain distance.....?
Need to add Compulsion to my list of struggles, if that includes recurring intrusive thoughts.... Not overwhelming, but they certainly are there....
Didn't sleep too well last night, and I'm sure that had something to do with it.
Tried to breathe and clear my mind... didn't work as well as I would have liked.
Now that the day is progressing, I'm feeling a bit more balanced. But need to print out my list of thoughts/ideas for 2020 and put em in my top pocket...

I didn't create this world, why do I feel "responsible" for it??
Is this some form of megalomania? Something else?
