Preparing for the next day: charge watch, pack food, leave on time.

Post by oak »

A straightforward premise, friends:

Each evening, as my day winds down, I put my watch on the charger.

Simple, right?

Then why don't I do it regularly?

In one sense it is as easy as remembering to brush my teeth or lock my door, both of which I do regularly.

But I regularly "forget" to charge my watch.

Like a downer tapestry, if one plucks at a thread, a whole lot of other stuff comes tumbling out, unbidden.

There is more I'd like to say about this, and will soon, but for now just acknowledging that "something is going on" is all I can handle.

While I choose not to face "why" I feel this way, yet, for now I can clearly articulate how I want things to look on the other side of this:

(note: I noticed that many of these habits/goals are similar to mitigating HALT-meltdowns on the weekend. Hmmmm.)

On weekends and WFH days, at 7:45 am I can envision:

1. Showered, shaved, and wearing clean clothes.

1a. I want to have eaten a small, preliminary breakfast before leaving.

2. Watch and phone are charged, with "fitness" apps up and running (Pokemon Go and Pikmin Bloom- both reward walking).

3. A variety of small dollar bills in my wallet so I can buy a piece of fruit at the grocery store a mile away (walk and see pretty cashiers).

4. Not have to hurry there or back. I get shin splints if I walk too hurriedly.

5. I want to have a cool yet subtle hat to protect me from sun damage.

I have, friends, about 2.5 months before the weather turns.

Summary

I know where I am, where I want to be, and have an idea of what is preventing me (spoiler: it is the evil, despicable secondary gain).

Thank you for letting me get this all out. More soon!

Hello Oak,

Sounds like a good routine.
I have, friends, about 2.5 months before the weather turns.
May I point out the Scandanavian saying -

“There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes”

Cooler weather is great for walking too!

The cold is good for the skin and brain. Get out there buddy and lap it up. Makes a warm shower ten times better.
