my way of relating

I hate that I'm no good at verbal/written comfort or advice. My way of relating to people is to tell a story from my own life that is similar to what they're going through, and I think it makes me look narcissistic and annoying and rude. I probably am. But it doesn't mean that I don't care or don't want to help, it just means..I'm bad at it.

Hello Nevina!
To a certain degree, we can _only_ speak through our own autobiographies. Sometimes I just start out by admitting "I wish I had the expertise to give you the help you deserve. All I can do is speak from my own past..."
Please take care. Your attempts to help are probably awesome, and you are just being too hard on yourself!

That's a good idea. ("I wish I had the expertise...") Thank you!
