Agreed, Manuel Moe.

Thank you for sharing, Mental Fairy. Well said about people coming into your life, again.

The mountain has a powerful hold on you. I am glad you’ve come to a new understanding. We’ve all seen stories of people who can’t walk away from the mountain.

Your father sounds like a real character! Biker and coroner, IIRC.

In a bit lighter thoughts:

Feel free to share your thoughts on meat. Especially bacon.

Lastly, I have an excellent climbing podcast to recommend:

Climbing Gold, by the icon Alex Honnold.

He cohosts with the great Fitz Cahall, creator of the amazing Dirtbag Diaries podcast (outdoors, with some climbing).

I hope you have a great holiday weekend!

Hi Team

I noticed something today, we had an urgent case this avo which unfortunately delivered some life changing news to patient. She was with her husband and expectantly the couple were a mess.

I did my job, did the notes and felt so numb. I was driving home and felt numb. It feels wrong to feel numb. I even tried crying and felt strained and numb.

Doesn’t feel normal.

Mental Fairy, the numbness you describe is not only not unheard of, but no less an authority than Robert Bly has described it.

He described the numbness in his chest, which began when he was an adolescent, as a psychic wound from his emotionally unavailable father.

My guess: there is a wound that we can’t comprehend/fathom yet. Hence the numbness.

Hi Team

Like Oak, have had a couple of lows this past week. Mainly around work stuff.

My dear friend I bumped into a few weeks back works for Department Of Conservation here on the mountain. She is battling Parkinson’s but doing well. Today Is cold, wind is aggressive and rain is falling. I made up a picnic basket full of healthy foods and salads. I made up a traditional cocoa drink in the thermos and made my way up the mountain to her. Walking in the door at the visitor centre I surprised her will a hot drink and some lunch. She immediately burst into tears as there is no other people brave enough to go up the mountain today! So as two nature enthusiasts we watched the sleet fall and sipped our hot drinks and ate salad and cried!

If I could do that for each one of you I would.

Today we are trying to stay sane in this very damaging weather, currently we are at 65km winds hitting us. Again we have less trees, and what is still standing is stripped completely.

Our cat is terrified as the noise is really impressive.

If I could just build me a storm bunker I could hibernate like a bear.
