IT HURTS

Deep inside, where I look for my soul
Trying to find the meaning of ‘me’
And there’s nothing there
Except a black hole
It hurts

When I’m longing for connection
And I grasp at any chance
But there’s only my own desperation
Staring at me
It hurts

When I wish with all my heart
That they could understand me
And validate so that I’m not so alone
But they just don’t get it
It hurts

When the voices scream of reason
They say it’s not about me, it’s my family – they need me
But the deeper voice
Is forever reminding me I must break free
It hurts

When I can see the consequences
Of what I’ve caused
And all the awareness cannot help me
To change it
It hurts

When I know that this is my share
And I need to find the courage and strength
To not only survive it
But to use it to grow
It brings me to my knees...

There's so much in those two little words... "it hurts."

There's so much pain.
