Doodles, dooh-dahs, dribbles... Share with me!

Post by troebia »

Hello all, I'm fed up with the Instagram way of sharing stuff. On the positive side I've discovered many fellow oddballs on IG, but there's that curated feel to most of the posts. The like-hunting and the self-censorship one detects takes a lot of joy out browsing the app nowadays. Very few people do truly crazy stuff or share anything remotely negative because (omg) it might hurt your personal brand and weird out your followers. I say, to hell with it! Let's enjoy a safe space like this forum and let it all hang out. More to come.
(Btw Manuel Moe, I'd like to know the policy on NSFW content here?)

Troebia, thank you for sharing. Please continue to do so.

Also, feel free to share more about your thoughts on art in your other thread. I’d be interested in anything you have to say about that, too.

Hi Troebia! Like the podcast, zero censorship here, trigger warnings if you feel it necessary, but never forced to.

The only things ever removed on this forum were (1) obvious cheap spam, and (2) people who try to invalidate someone’s sincere trauma

So feel free to share!

Thank you Manuel Moe, this one is not however NSFW
I often do these quick sketches from YouTube videos. It's very relaxing to watch as if you were walking yourself through a village and it's possible to pause in places where you wouldn't be able to sketch IRL, like in the middle of a busy street. When I've visited some of these places they feel completely different because of other factors like time of day, heat, wind, smell, sound.

Wow, what an interesting exercise. I'm not an artist, but never thought about that, usually see folks at the shore or elsewhere with an easel.

(My artist friend sometimes looked thru old National Geographic magazines for inspiration)

It's exactly that, an exercise. One doesn't need to consider themselves an Artist, just doodle and enjoy...

Here's one example. Everyone who sees it wants to pull it off the wall. Something about the donkey...

One of my future endeavors is to try to copy some of the Egyptian hieroglyphs and other ancient scripts. Did some calligraphy years ago, and putting a good pen to good paper is quite satisfying...

That looks like a very Portuguese scene imo! I like the brushwork a lot.

I used to be somewhat of a fountain pen fetishist, and I had lots of pens and inks. Nowadays I mainly use cheap Chinese plastic pens which I fill with the kind of ink you buy in big bottles. There's something special about a nice heavy pen with a flexible nib, though. Calligraphy is very relaxing and meditative, I'd recommend the Pilot Parallel model which has a flat nib.

Picture one reminds me of our native Māori artwork for some reason, the more I look at it the more I would like it!

Picture two I find very calming and somewhat holiday feel. Very much shows how simplicity came bring on complex beautiful feelings and emotions.

SD, the donkey! Oh he is cute. That reminds me I better that a photo of this oil painting I have under the bed. No idea if I like it or hate it.
