Happy memory

Post by brownblob »

I had a happy memory yesterday. I heard the song "Walk on the Wild Side" by Lou Reed and I remember being in my early 20's and riding in a car with my older brother and my mother. This song came on the radio and my mother I guess actually listened to the lyrics(they describe some gay/trans friends of Reed) and my mother made a face and said "What is this crap?" I said "It's a classic" My brother agreed with me. My mother sat in her disgust and there was something liberating in standing up to her opinion and having my brother agree with me.

Hello BB,

I remember hearing this song when it came out, and I was just a kid.
Had no idea what it was about, but really liked all the elements - delivery, backup vocals, rythmns etc. Unlike most of what was on the radio.

I just happened to see a film by Laurie Anderson, called "Heart of a Dog". Quite affecting. Didn't know it, but she was Lou Reed's partner.
