Walking the Room Episode 148: Gallagher's Suicide Note

Post by ghughes1980 »

Paul as a giant Wrestling nerd I have to make a correction to the story you told about taking the diamond cutter on TV from Diamond Dallas Page. You where involved with WCW on this occasion not WWF or WWE. WCW was a Turner owned property that had shows running on TNT and TBS. WWE did end up buying them in 2001 but never ran a television program under the WCW banner after the purchase. Sorry to be anal about this but my anxiety kicked in hard.

I stand corrected, thank you! I'm shocked I remembered Eric Bishoff's name. I'm sure I'm mangling the spelling.

A wrestler might be an interesting podcast guest.

Chris Hardwick has had a couple of wrestlers on his Nerdist podcast, and I agree - could be a really interesting guest!

I'd like to hear Flair's take on life I suppose but his son just died, give the guy some space. Kevin Sullivan might be a good get but again, how much time is enough after close family has been murdered? It's so touchy. Taking to Bret Hart about loss would be interesting or members of the Atkinson (Von Eric) family, but again are they willing to share on the subject? For that matter Lanny Poffo would be a great get. there are a lot of guys publicly in recovery too but most of the notables speak every chance they get lately so it would be a lot of rehash etc.

Having seen Heroes of World Class, it seems like Kevin Von Erich is pretty open to discussing his family loss and personal feelings. Not sure if he would be so open with someone outside the business, of course. I think for most older-school wrestlers it might be too hard to avoid them trying to work the conversation for their own agendas (either for their own gain, or because of an axe they have to grind), because that seems pretty deeply ingrained at a certain generation.

Not sure who Nerdist had on, but I'm guessing Colt Cabana is one, and I'm sure he'd be a fine guest. He's very well-spoken and funny and has a lot of insight.
