Thank You
Thank you Paul! While I only discovered your show recently, I've listened to almost all of the Mental Illness Happy Hours episodes and they have really helped me come to terms with my generalized anxiety disorder, OCD, and depression. The honesty, compassion, and humor of Paul and his guests have inspired me in so many ways. Trying to live my life in a void was not working, and now I'm much more comfortable reaching out for help. I'm a 42 year-old college professor and while I love my job, I'm still struggling to conquer feeling of worthlessness. I come from a family background full of alcoholism, depression, and suicide - and I was abused and bullied both at school and at home. As a result of my background and my personality I'm hyper-sensitive to criticism, prone to panic attacks, and crippling perfectionism. Right now I'm one of the lucky ones, as I can afford counseling and medication (citalopram daily and klonapin for panic attacks). As I've started reaching out to friends, I'm stunned by how many people are struggling with similar issues - sadly many of them have been struggling in silence. It's time to destigmatize mental illness and Paul is leading the way.
