Re: Episode 294: Dr Laura Dabney
Not sure why, but her tone of voice made me aggressive like no other episode of any podcast I've ever listened to. She appeared to lack any deep-seated seriousness, giggling spastically almost like Dubya Bush involuntarily grinning in one of his speeches. In all seriousness, she reminded me more of a Phil Hendrie character than of a real person.

I really enjoyed this episode. It's nice to hear from the experts. Her voice was fine for me. Soothing even. I find episodes from therapists or psychiatrists very helpful. I can relate to some of the others non-professional interviews from a humanistic standpoint, but I can only take so many sad stories without getting numb or turned off. For that, I haven't been coming to the site or listing to the podcasts anymore. I just check in once and a while now. I probably listened to the first 150 episodes, but I got to the point where I no longer found them useful. That is probably a good sign that I have healed up to a certain point. Thanks

I'd been holding off on commenting, because I don't want to be negative, but I agreed with melalerve. I didn't find Dr Dabney real insightful. I had been looking forward to it because the description said something about personality disorders, because I find them interesting and not talked about much. She gave an offhand cliffnotes kind of answer about them. Well this is all you need to know about personality disorders. I agree with melalerve. With her voice, incessant laughing, and attitude, she'd make a great character for Phil Hendrie.

I agree with brownblob and melalerve though it wasn't so much Dr. Dabney's tone of voice that I found so off-putting. It was more the way she would not complete sentence, or would skip over 'unnecessary' words, and even use random examples rather than explaining something properly. She also seemed to be looking down on the men she was talking about. Like 'oh and then we had to go through that whole thing' as if it was all some kind of selfless service she was providing. What took the cake was when Paul asked for clarification about her claim that disorders can be treated she accused him of playing with semantics. He absolutely was not dealing with semantics, she was simply befuddling the conversations wth half statements.
