Self harm
Is it really bad to engage in safe (clean and methodical) self harm without the intention of killing yourself or causing serious damage?

Re: Self harm
Well, it is a coping mechanism, so it has a positive aspect or else there would be no drive to do it.
I would imagine the social stigma would be a factor.
But the biggest issue would be using energy for self-harm instead of using energy for spiritual growth.
Please take care, all the best, keep the lines of communication open.

Hello Chapstick,
Two threads with the same name here, so it took me a minute...
Since you're posing the question in a neutral and theoretical way, may I ask a few in the same fashion? (Being serious here).
1. Why would someone choose this particular activity (physical self harm) as opposed to something else?
2. What are the perceived benefits that are obtained?
Also, did you see the link I posted from the NYT? Maybe some discussion points there....
Wishing you well.
