How we decide our futures
"People do not decide their futures,
they decide their habits
and their habits
decide their futures."
- F. M. Alexander
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This quote is terrifying to me. Of course, it makes perfect sense.
My only good habit is that I am always participating in self-reflection and self-improvement, albeit dimly, albeit slowly. I hope it is enough.
Re: How we decide our futures
Alexander was an Australian actor who became a teacher of a technique he developed on himself that’s effective in interrupting unconscious (therefore inaccessible) bad habits of speech and posture. It’s supposed to be very effective, with benefits to general well-being and confidence.
That said, he may have made this statement with specific reference to his own technique. It sounds like a helpful technique though and only takes a few lessons.
I might check it out.
Re: How we decide our futures
Been thinking about this post most of day.
Very interesting. I’m also intrigued by how people see themselves on their roles and how it changes over time. Partly age, partly changes in lifestyle or situations.
I think we decide things without full consciousness at times.
This is a topic that’s got my brain cogs turning.
