Hi Beany,

I'm glad your new sleep hygiene experiment is producing positive results.

If I'm remembering correctly, I think you once wrote about the mental benefits of clean sheets. Just last week I thought of that when I was having some sleep issues. I washed all my bedding and the cleanly washed cool sheets did help me sleep better somehow.

First night of interrupted sleep. Directly related to abuse by a coworker. I reported the incident and requested a day off rather than work without having slept. The first time I’ve openly requested what would qualify as mental health leave.

Thankfully the coworker will be leaving soon to join another team.

It was nice to experience interrupted sleep as the exception amidst consistent sleep as the norm.

I didn’t feel that bad actually. It just felt sensible to take the day off to avoid making fatigue-related errors.

It paid off. I regularly feel compelled to “tell” myself something in the hope of improving my mood. I got to the place this afternoon at home where I told myself, “you don’t have to say anything to yourself”. That made me feel safe in a new way.

I am really impressed with how much mental and emotional work you have tied into this sleep hygiene strategy.

So Zen.
