She is rather limited intellectually and everything for her circles around food, her "pains", her digestive system, family and the past.
Ugh, I can see it all clearly. I am sorry, Troebia

Anyhow... I'll try to focus on the good and fun stuff. Just finished a week-long refurbishing and maintenance project at home. One day I was putting white sealant on some tubing and halfway through I realised I'd have to stick my hand inside. There wasn't time to get a silicone glove so I got my hand totally covered, it wouldn't come off even with strong solvent. Then off to the dentist, she looked at my hand and said "Oh, you're one of those DIY guys". Which was pretty spot on by her since a pro would never have forgotten to put on a glove.

Hello Troebia,

Hope you're doing well. You're dealing with a lot of sh!t these days...

I must say you(r) and Mental Fairy's posts are often so deep and eloquent, I stand mute.
So many thoughts and responses are evoked, but before I can reply, "the water moves on"...

Anyway, here's a song that came to mind. (Love her timbre...)
I once decided to flush out a diary from several years with no regrets.

Well, I often wish there were more off-the-cuff comments here in general, so please don't hold back!

I'd take the advice of that intense tiny spindly chain smoking French woman, but that was a person with a flamethrower instead of my tiny internal flickering flame. :D

I'm having a lot of vivid dreams lately, in fact I've thought about making a new thread about them. They're not nightmares as such, but practically all of them are set in a completely different life. I'm still "me" but everything else is unfamiliar.

It may be I'm trying to get away from my present reality, but on the other hand holding on to this boring little life of mine with all my might. Shit will still happen but it's in a familiar, relatively safe surrounding. There's no shortage of things to do. I could take the car almost any day to go somewhere and paint, but I'll prefer doodling at my desk or tinkering with something when there aren't chores to do. I have a looming premonition that everything around me and inside me is becoming very temporary, and laying low now is a bit like saving one's strength before the storm.

I would very much like to be in touch with a creative person that also wrestles with existential thoughts. I tried Facebook and a "friendship" app but only got replies from women who thought I was attempting to get into a romantic relationship in some roundabout way. So many lonely people out there, in deep financial debt. Some of them have dug their own hole and thrown themselves in (time after time) of course, like my sister in law.

Recently I discovered this person on YouTube: https://m.youtube.com/@marienoellewurm. She seems to have suffered from CPTSD and isn't afraid of showing the ugly part of her creative process.

Hi lovely. Have a look at above link. If you can get her book online have a read. I have it currently as I know her well. Her story is maybe something that will interest you.

Since our trip away my dreams have been very lucid and rancid.

Hello Troebia,

The water has moved way, way on, but
MIL was absolutely basking in the attention of her two daughters who were at her beck and call.
I was wondering why your wife and sister-in-law are so in thrall to their mother. Seems a bit unbalanced. Wonder what the household was like when they were growing up...
She is rather limited intellectually and everything for her circles around food, her "pains", her digestive system, family and the past. She'll go on and on about trivial stuff ............with absolute relish over the dinner table.
So weird, but from observation, so 'human". I hope to avoid this myself, but maybe I'm doomed too. :? ;)

(I've often thought about the ongoing search for extra-terrestrial life, and how we seem to assume that if it exists, it would be so much more advanced. But what if it's just some similar state of affairs? )

On the other hand, and I think this has already been done as a sitcom - what if an alien intelligence visited and stayed in the guest room for a few days to observe...

On the kitchen table until noon, there's always a tray with the luxuriously ignored breakfast for MIL with meticulously peeled fruit that my wife has prepared. MIL will eventually get up and have a little nibble, and the rest will spend days in rotation inside the fridge until discarded.
That's outrageous. Food is expensive and so many people in this world are forced to go without for many days.

(Mom was right! Hmm...I wonder if she ever said this to her children...)

I've had a look at her YouTube channel and also some of @marienoellewurm 's videos talking about mental health, and wasn't impressed. Charging via Patreon for classes is great imo, but these creators delve a lot into their private life and talk sweepingly about mental health issues from a very personal perspective that could be mistaken for professional guidance...or maybe that's the point?

Intelligent life elsewhere probably contains contradictions and absurdities just like ours. Maybe AGI will soon try to iron out these wrinkles for us, but I think imperfection will always win...it's what makes us human. How have other intelligent life forms in the universe resolved this conflict with thinking machines? I guess we'll never know
