Not all Americans, not all Israelis, Palestinians, Iranians, Russians, Chinese, North Koreans... I'm afraid there are even darker times ahead because nationalist propaganda from the top is ramping up in countries that are always on the front page these days. I can't even remember last time I read news from Canada.snoringdog wrote: ↑November 23rd, 2024, 5:16 pm At an after-dinner-drinks session with some Canadian and European colleagues, I couldn't help but bring it up and make sure they knew that I "wasn't a fan".

The chaos is beginning.
I've been avoiding a lot of the click-bait daily noise and things that won't matter a week from now.
But I do love well-observed and erudite commentary, along with ironic takes and satire, so...
But I get a sick feeling about things, the state of the world and it's trajectory (Tragectory?)
This feels like a well-worn shoe I've been wearing since I was a teenager though ....

I agree. I don’t see much positive coming towards our countries for a long while yet.

Hi snoringdog,
It is still important to take care of yourself. I live in a red state so I was not surprised. I try to avoid what I can avoid. It is all out of my control. I hope that things won't get as bad as we fear. For me there is a sick feeling that the world has passed me by and my America is dead or maybe never existed in the first place. I have been getting used to this new reality since 2020. Hang in there SD

Hello Brownblob!
Great to hear from you, long time.
Yes, it's a balancing act.
If I don't stay informed, then I join the millions of the willfully-ignorant.
If I pay too-close attention to the minutiae, I get upset and angry.
(And I have to catch my OCD-ish self having imaginary verbal arguments and mentally sparring with the idiots-du-jure.)
But the world *has* always been a bewildering and depressing place to me.
(Speaking in global and macro terms. Day to day can still hold interest and beauty)
FWIW - There's a physics / mathematics blog I check in on every once in awhile, and the author has interesting takes on the current state of physics, democracy and election results.

So, on a lighter note - You've posted some really nice music suggestions in the past, anything new?
Wishing you well.

I sometimes think that too but then again, if we'd had "successful" careers and were millionaires and full of self-satisfaction, the world would still be in the handbasket with all the sickening injustice and pain, and we'd still be watching it all, so....For me there is a sick feeling that the world has passed me by and my America is dead or maybe never existed in the first place.

Re: The US Election
It's weird, and it's just me, but I feel as though I should apologize to my non-American friends and acquaintances for the outcome of the election.
