Hello everyone!
My name is Mark, I'm a professional student in Wisconsin. I'm from a very small town and for a very long time (my whole life pretty much) I interpreted my anxiety and depression as good 'ole midwestern shyness. Last summer, right before I started school, these feelings culminated into a pretty serious panic attack while i was driving on the freeway. I nearly passed out, and I had to pull over at the nearest exit and rest for about an hour. I actually thought initially I was just getting car sick, and also blamed it on a recent bout of Lyme's Disease. I had no idea that anxiety can manifest itself in such powerful and systemic ways. Anyways, I've had to fight anxiety feeding depression ever since, and just recently began thinking that I should get treatment for underlying depression in order to help me cope with anxiety. Oh, and just about every male in my extended family is on anti-depressants, and my mother's side has rampant anxiety and panic attacks. Thank goodness for heredity.
Glad to finally post! This is a fabulous little community.
Mark

Welcome to the forum Mark! I would tend to agree that professional help is a good idea if your attacks are that bad.
The purpose of life is to make it mean something.
