I consent (this time) to post a safety thought.

“Toxic positivity”
Apparently the antidote is:

“Tragic Optimism”

It’s a searchable phrase. Brought to my attention by Esther Perel.

I like it, it resembles the Stoic mindset. Found an interesting article here about it: https://www.bbc.com/worklife/article/20 ... positivity. Though I'm not so sure about hanging one's hopes on the "light at the end of the tunnel" as described in the article. For example I will personally always be hampered by my physical defects, and although there can be acceptance there can never be a feeling of being wholly "normal".

There’s a button in my mind.
When I press it I see what I want,
Beyond words,
And enjoy it
For a moment.
I press the button
When I remember it’s there.

Ugh, I relate to this. I have so many tools for dealing with my mind, but I often forget to use those tools. It is fatigue from the constant struggle to manage my mind.

Yes, I know.

For me, it’s that the techniques don’t work in emergency situations. Not unless you’ve run the drills many times. That’s why the button seems to work. It’s a fail-safe button that I just hit when I’ve had enough. I hit the button in my mind and it gives me permission to go more directly toward the wordless, feeling point I innately want to get to.

It’s sort of based on that idea of,

Trust your belly not your eyes
Don’t bight off more than you can chew

This is from the Taoist, Laozi. If you enjoy the Stoics, you might like the sayings of Laozi.

My mother always said my eyes were bigger than my stomach. It is true. My sense of needing is positively grandiose, but I won't ever admit it. So I perform and contort and intend and convey convey convey. But what I deeply wish for is to just once remember in time how often I regret having ordered an entree half way through my appetizer.

It’s okay to feel grandiosely needy.

People who make sure you're safe while you’re feeling it, will help.

The deal I make is,

If I can be optimistic about tomorrow, tonight,
Then tomorrow I’m allowed to return to being realistic.
