Thank you for your advice and support! I really appreciate it - heading to lynda.com ASAP.
You're right, it's very difficult to actually be unemployed. The anxiety is not good right now. I'm doing what I can to get healthier and less isolated.

Just got fired, and I'm so relieved!
I recently took a new job, in a profession I worked in for many years. I had not worked directly in the field for a while, and was a little nervous about taking it; it's a very stressful job, and I have an anxiety disorder that is just barely under control. But I had not worked full-time for more th...
Venting
I'm 46, and have been dealing with depression and anxiety for most of my life. It's always difficult, but the last five years have been horrific. The depression accompanied a number of recession-related Bad Things (lost my job, savings and home), plus I lost my home again in Hurricane Sandy. The dep...

That was really beautiful, Glock Therapy. Thanks for saying it.
And thanks to Paul for allowing us to see that struggle. It communicates the reality of life with mental illness in a way that's much more powerful than words.

Re: Help for an Anxiety Newbie?
I wish you the best, and hope that you find help! Anxiety is horrible; I feel like it's more subtle than depression in the way it becomes a part of your life. And it's so damaging on every level, from social interaction to physical health. Anxiety has been a big problem for me, lately. I feel like I...

Re: S.A.D. but maybe not so bad.
Thank you for the advice about the Vitamin D! I take it, but may adjust the dose (and actually try to take it regularly). The lamp works really well for me; this year I've used it for about 45 minutes every morning. In terms of symptoms, this has been the best year in a long time. October and a lot ...

Re: Can you cry?
Starting with my most recent depression, I became an out-of-control weeper. All kinds of inappropriate occasions: business meetings, any kind of personal confrontation. Until they tweaked my meds, I cried every morning; it could be something sad in the news, or something happy in the news, or a vide...

Re: Viibryd
I've been on Viibryd for just over a year, and just went up to 60 mg/day. It works well for me, but I have to take it at the same time every day. If I don't, depressive symptoms start kicking in really fast. As for the vivid dreams, I've had that side effect with almost every antidepressant I've bee...
Re: Phones
I had no idea any other people went through this! My phone phobia started up about 4 years ago, and there are a lot of friends and family I just haven't spoken to since then. I guess I figured it was better to have people think I was a jerk who didn't return phone calls than to admit I'm afraid of ...

Introducing Myself
Hi, long time listener, first time caller ... ;) I'm 45, and have had depression and anxiety since I was about 17. I started seeing a doctor and therapist to treat the illness when I was 30. My quality of life dramatically improved after that. I've had several multi-year episodes, but nothing that ...
