Being mentally ill is so isolating
It's almost been a month since my counselor told me he thinks I'm Bipolar II. I feel like I need to tell everyone I meet so they will understand why I am the way I am but I know I can't. It comes with such a stigma. My employer is changing health insurance carriers so everyone in my office is talkin...

Re: Telling your family you are bipolar
Sorry to hear that about your mom. I feel like I should tell everyone but I haven't. I've only told close family.

Re: Episode 144: Listener Seth
This interview was so good I felt compelled to post here. Whether Seth sees this or not I want to say your story was so real and raw, but your journey beautiful. You've come so far though maybe you can't see it yet. I was touched so thank you for sharing. Probably one of the best episodes I've heard...

Re: Should i or not?
I agree with cpa85. Sometimes going to work can be a nice distraction IF your work isn't really stressful. If you feel like it's too much to handle you might be able to claim Family Medical Leave (FMLA) and that will protect you for 12 weeks of unpaid leave, and job protection. Check out this link f...

Re: Trying to get on bipolar meds
Thanks for the info. I'm not having anymore kids. My daughter, she's five years old, is autistic and frankly I can't handle any more than her. So I don't need to worry about that. I'm not on birth control (husband had a vasectomy), but apparently there is a concern with taking lamotrigine and being ...

Re: Telling your family you are bipolar
Update: I did end up telling my parents and since then my mom has been checking in on me, which she never does. It's not a nosey way or anything, just dropping a text here or there asking how I am or how my meds are working. It's kind of nice.

Re: Trying to get on bipolar meds
Thanks for the advice. It's kind of odd how the Abilify was prescribed to me. My therapist can't prescribe, I guess that means he is actually a counselor, but anyway his recommendation to tell my doctor was Abilify or Lamictal. My doctor called me in for a consult and warned me that he didn't think ...
