Does anyone do this when they're anxious or in a panic attack? For some reason, I didn't recognize it as headbanging behavior, but I've been compulsively punching myself in the head, and doing so far more in the past few weeks.

I can't imagine. I know from bad support groups, but not chemical addiction. All I can suggest is that you do everything you can to keep your sobriety. Groups change over time. But your sobriety is something you can't let change. Best wishes and hopes!
