Greetings

Post by nuveena »

Hello all. My go-to name is Murphy. I have done a few surveys and such and I think one made it to the podcast.

I stumbled upon the podcast whilst browsing thru the iTunes store looking for stuff to listen to. I work 3rd shift (overnight) at a factory inspecting product and without audio it gets dreadfully boring. I got hooked into podcasts by the likes of Kevin Smith (SMODcast) and Chris Hardwick (Nerdist). I really like the podcast so far (been listening for a couple months now). Even the "depressing" ones. I find not only do those episodes in particular make my "problems" not as important, they also make me feel like I'm not alone in my feelings.

I am bi-polar, but a type that is able to manage without full-time meds. I'll admit that once in awhile I have to bite the bullet and either get a script or schedule a few sessions with a therapist. No one in my family has understood that sometimes, you just need a little help from the outside. What's more, I find it SO much easier to open up to strangers/acquaintances/friends than I do my family or even partner (he's a bit like my dad in terms of emotional distance, but a good man nonetheless). Paul giving me a verbal pat-on-the-head from a survey made my tail wag. ^_^

Ok, speed round:

female
31
bipolar, but managing
struggle with body image even tho I managed to lose 65 lbs
I am horrible to myself in terms of negative self-talk
BA in Psych with a minor in Criminology
1st in my family to go to college
worked in the Human Services industry for a few years until I got burnt out
worked with pre-teens/teens who sexually abused others (my boss once called a few Ted Bundys in training... great, huh? :o )
never wanted kids. ever. when asked if I wanted to have my tubes clipped or burnt, I replied "whatever's more permanent"
LOVE sushi, anime, reddit and video games (I'm still a big kid)
proud owner of 2 Great Danes
currently in the longest LTR in my life- 5 years and counting
have a really difficult time saying NO and that fact has bitten me hard in the past
fascinated by serial killers (esp. HH Holmes)
one of my Criminology profs declined to interview John Wayne Gacy for a book because he didn't want to glorify his crimes
I have dreadlocks and yes, I wash them
I often wonder if I suffer from anorgasmia
Have had two bisexual encounters and I still find women attractive, but I don't think twice makes you bisexual.

I can't think of anything else at the moment (4:59 in the morning right now and I'm itching to go home and to bed), but I'm an open person and would answer any questions to the best of my ability and without violating anyone's privacy. So, AMA. :D

Hi Nuveena:

Welcome to the forum! I'm a relative newbie myself. I like your "Speed Round" I didn't post anything like that... but it is helpful for others to get a glimpse of who they're speaking with. I think I'll copy cat ya and do that myself sometime soon. I totally love the podcasts and Paul's sense of humor. Hope you are happy here - see ya in the forum!

Hi Nuuvena - I'm bipolar II. Also on meds that are helping tremendously. Also with a partner who's not really all that understanding.

I like the speed round. Maybe someone should start a thread....
