30 years of PTSD can make you, well, a bit nuts

Post by Gretchen »

Yikes, it is downright ugly to write this down, but it IS my reality...
I have been attacked sexually 6 times in my life. Kinda gets old. The first was at age 8, a full-blown rape at 19, and the latest was 5 years ago. I am dealing with agoraphobia, anxiety, panic attacks, OCD, depression, and PTSD. A lot on my plate.
Still, I am such a kid at heart and love being silly and marvelling at the tiniest things in life that others pass by.
I am very tender-hearted, rescuing worms off the sidewalk and such. I feel absolutely desperate to relieve suffering in animals and people.
I have only recently learned the art of forgiving.
I am thrilled to pieces to be on this site.
Confucious say man who run in front of car get tired. Man who run behind car get exhausted.

Ah, I see I'm a bit late in responding to your introduction, but late is better than never :)

That's quite a history you've shown in a few short sentences. I'm definitely a kid at heart - climbing trees, chasing strays down the street ("C'MON KITTY I JUST WANT TO PET YOU LET ME TOUCH YOU!"). Have you thought about volunteering at a rescue center or being a foster pet owner? You could walk dogs a few times a month or come in and just socialize - a lot of shelters take volunteers just to come in and play with the animals. It keeps them social and very affectionate.

I suspect you want to help others because you know how much emotional pain can hurt and you don't want to see that in others. Don't lose that, it's wonderful you're so loving after what you've been through. Many people just shut down or are afraid of emotional interaction.

Welcome!
