SAD: Tue to Tue.

Post by oak »

Hi friends.

Between Seasonal Affective Disorder, a stalled job search, and 2020-grief, I feel weighed down with an oppressive heaviness. I haven't seen the sun in almost a week, and the seasons are changing.

I discussed this with my counselor yesterday, during our weekly Tuesday sessions, and she expressed concern. We came up with a list of about six self care actions I can take in the next week: they are simple and easy. My goal is to complete half of them, above all just taking it easy.

Today I showered and shaved, and will will myself out the door to go outside and go to taekwondo.

Going forward, my counselor wants me to continue to use my lightbox, try to get outside every day, and (in agreement with my doctor) continue to take vitamin D.

I am trying to hold on (ie not let the neurotic-type anxiety get to me) until next Tuesday.

I can't believe I had the energy to type this. This is more of an accomplishment than I am letting on.

Thank you for your encouragement, friends!

Yesterday I dragged myself to taekwando and today I went to the town square for an hour of glorious sunshine.

I am not feeling much better, but I am at least doing (ie taking action) a little better, if that makes sense.

Please remember, motivation follows action, and feeling follows action.

You are taking the right steps, friend and brother.
