What's with all the spam posts lately?

Have been seeing a lot of spam posts lately and reporting some, don't know if it helps.
I've managed a couple of forums through the years and the Akismet spam blocker works really well. There's an extension for phpBB: https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/extension/akismet/
As always, if the admins decide to try it out, first make a backup of the database as a precaution.

Yes, the spam is getting a little out of control, I will tell Paul G. and the forum tech that I would be willing to pay for the paid plan because I don't think we qualify for the free plan

it will be worth it because i spend all my time spam busting, and not doing things like the Instagram link in the user settings, and such
