navigating discussions of suicidality

Post by gerunding »

How do y'all have the conversation about the difference between feeling suicidal and having a plan with people who have never experienced that level of depression?

I am feeling nervous about starting that conversation with someone who is relatively even the majority of the time. Mostly, I hope they understand that feeling suicidal is not necessarily a death wish; it can be a chance to see that something needs to change.
I'm also worried they will call EMS.
Tips? Thoughts?

This forum may not be the appropriate place for this discussion. I am sure the intentions are all for the best, but have to err on the side of caution.
