Strange Thing That Happens (Not Making This Up)

Post by remarks »

Not sure which board to post this on, but this is my best guess. So here's the deal: for the last year or so, every time I look at porn this random memory from childhood comes back into my brain. It's not like I'm seeking it out or anything. There's nothing sexual about it either.

The memory is this: I'm in the back of my mom's best friend's car. We had just left K-Mart, where I picked out a new green sailboat bath toy. I think I'm 7 years old. We are arriving on the college campus to pick up my mother after her classes.

That's it. Strange, huh? For the record, nothing strange ever happened to me regarding my mom's friend, toy boats, or this college campus. That's why I cannot figure out why this pops in my brain. I figure this must mean something, as I had forgotten about this insignificant memory until this started happening. It's also worth noting that this memory does not pop in my head when I'm having sex or masturbating without porn involved.

I don't expect anyone to have real answers for me. I'm hoping just telling someone this will make it go away. It's quite annoying. Anyone else have strange reoccurring thoughts like this when sexual stuff is going on?

How strange! Sometimes our brains can make connections subconsciously and we have no idea why. It could be something deep, and you may want to look into it, but it could also be something totally benign. It's possible that something in that first video that you watched (or even something in the room as subtle as a scent) triggered that memory. It may have been something subconscious, but it would be such a weird experience that your brain could associate that memory with watching porn so that every time you engaged in that same activity, you got the same memory popping up. The more it annoys you, the more engrained it gets.

It's just a shot in the dark, but it's a possibility.

If the memory doesn't bring up any bad feelings, I would say it's nothing, but I'm not a professional and you may want to talk to someone if you think it might be a problem. But you seem mostly just annoyed by it. You could try just accepting the memory, not letting it bother you, and letting it go. If you put less energy into it, it may just start going away. Like quicksand, the more you struggle the worse it gets, you know?
Just breathe.
