Re: The Bell House - September 27, 2015
I really want to go to this event because it's the closest he's going to come to where I live (next state over, Vermont) but I'm stressing out about how to get there without driving. I have a car but I really don't feel comfortable using it in big cities and I've been told that it's really stressful driving there (considering that where I live there's usually not a lot of traffic etc).

Hey ifelldown - I've gone back and forth from NYC for a while when I used to live in Buffalo, it's not impossible! I'd recommend the Amtrak, it takes longer than buses but I found the long ride to be comfortable and a good way to catch up on reading (or podcasts!)
The train will take you to Penn Station which can be chaotic but you can easily get on a subway from there or go outside and use a taxi or car service to get to Brooklyn from there.

I can say, however, it might even be a little less stressful to drive as long as you can find a way to bypass Manhattan as much as you can. I've driven from Buffalo and the worst of it was in Jersey but I was able to get into Brooklyn via the Battery tunnel pretty easily. Once you get into Brooklyn where the event is taking place there is much less traffic.

So this is just over two weeks away! Wow.
I'm looking forward to meeting all of you and all of the NY area MentalPoddians (is that a word?). Even if we're all anxious and depressed.

I will say that having Paul read my Struggle in a Sentence about hoping my social anxiety doesn't keep me from making it to the podcast, has made me more determined to actually go. I need to claim my hug.

Re: The Bell House - September 27, 2015
thanks for the info, ladysquid.
i haven't been able to work up any motivation to find a way to get myself there, and i think that's probably for the best.
i just imagine the anxiety i'd have in a strange city would prevent me from enjoying the event, as much as i really want to go. and i dont have anybody that i could talk into going with me, so it looks like i'm out.
i hope everyone that does go has a really nice time

Sorry we won't see you there, ifelldown, but I totally get it. "How do I get to that place?" is one of my major anxiety triggers.

I've been to the Bell House. It's on a block that's pretty industrial so in the evening there's always parking. I'll be driving in from Upper Suburbia (Westchester).

The anxiety I get when I'm lost is the worst, totally get it. That's why I like the city, there's only so far you can go on a subway, by car it's like free falling into the abyss. Hopefully there will be an event closer to you in the future.
MentalPoddians sounds fitting.
