There's a movie coming up called "My Penguin Friend" about a penguin who keeps returning to a fisherman who rescued him and cleaned him up after an oil spill.

So much ugliness in this world. I want to live in this one instead. ;)

The Sandhill cranes are gathering along their migratory route these days.
I love listening to them

Audubon has a camera there, and many more around the world at www.explore.org

I just realized that though it's a live camera, you can go back to previous time in the day

The cranes have just taken flight for the day
(6:30 am PDT)

I find this exciting and beautiful.
(And a needed diversion from the shit-storm)

Thought of you this morning. I was standing in the window watching a thrush bird playing and peacefully going about knocking my pears off the tree. One by one it would get its beak and peeking away at the top of pear it would get it to break off the stem. The pear would fall and other birds would fly down to eat them. Gorgeous to watch.

I'll look up NZ thrushes. Sounds a little like crow behavior....

I was playing with the Merlin app this morning, having it try to identify some of the NZ bird pix from the geocache clues. Tried three, and it got one, but stumped on the third.. Fun

(Showed it the big tin chicken too, and it got it!)
