There is much to be said and understood about this topic. A decent place to begin is by watching this interview with Terry O'Neill from NOW, following the UVA case profiled in Rolling Stone. I think it is vital that patients, clinicians, anyone working in the criminal justice system (svu detectives, sex crimes attorneys, juries) have some basic understanding of how traumatic memory might present.
