Quotes or Lyrics that comfort you?
Quotes or Lyrics that comfort you?
I know you all must have them - my favorite is an old song by a British female folk group called The Poozies (I know, the name is awful) - the song is called Another Train, and the lyric is:
There's another train
There always is
Maybe the next one is yours
Get up and climb aboard....

What's yours?
There's another train
There always is
Maybe the next one is yours
Get up and climb aboard....

What's yours?

There is a road, no simple highway,
Between the dawn and the dark of night,
And if you go no one may follow,
That path is for your steps alone.
Grateful Dead
Between the dawn and the dark of night,
And if you go no one may follow,
That path is for your steps alone.
Grateful Dead
Sometimes I wrestle with my demons. Sometimes we just snuggle.

Re: Quotes or Lyrics that comfort you?
Hello:
There is a song, titled Blue Moon, by the 70s group Big Star that have given me much comfort over the years, especially in dark times.
Let me be your one light
And if you'd like a true heart
Take the time to show you're mine
And I'll be a blue moon in the dark
While you sleep, you'll see me there
Clouds race across the sky
Close your eyes and don't ask why
And I'll be a blue moon in your eyes
Morning comes and sleeping's done
Birds sing outside
If demons come while you're under
I'll be a blue moon in the sky
The song itself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ub9N8IP8hao
cheers

My profile quote below is one of my favorites.
"The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change." - Carl Rogers
Re: Quotes or Lyrics that comfort you?
My signature quote, by Margaret Atwood, is one of my favorites. Also, this quote by Gabriel Garcia Marquez from Love in the Time of Cholera: "He allowed himself to be swayed by his conviction that human beings are not born once and for all on the day their mother gives birth to them, but that life obliges them over and over again to give birth to themselves." I like it because of the implication that we have infinite chances to change ourselves, and we do not have to be defined by our pasts.
There's also a song by Bright Eyes that always makes me feel hopeful when I'm down. It's called First Day of my Life, and it's also kind of about being reborn. Here are the first few verses:
This is the first day of my life
Swear I was born right in the doorway
I went out in the rain suddenly everything changed
They're spreading blankets on the beach
Yours is the first face that I saw
I think I was blind before I met you
Now I don't know where I am
I don't know where I've been
But I know where I want to go
And so I thought I'd let you know
That these things take forever
I especially am slow
But I realize that I need you
And I wondered if I could come home

Mouse, yes! First Day of my Life always just fills my heart right up. It's beautiful. Ahh, I love it. Have you seen the music video? It makes me cry, honestly.

Yes! Me too! Such a sweet song/video combo.

These are all wonderful. Tom, your signature quote is awesome! I just read the intro to "Self Esteem", and it's so true that refusing or being unable to see our real selves can keep us stuck in shame and denial. It's absolutely true that with acceptance can come change.
