Long term project: Life Balance

Post by manuel_moe_g »

going to work with my therapist on this, will probably take months, because will work just a little bit each session, too much to devote whole sessions on this, because life things pop up, etc.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Consider this list of categories of life experiences and priorities
  1. Health
  2. Family and Friends
  3. Romance
  4. Personal Growth
  5. Fun and Recreation
  6. Clean, neat, uncluttered, organized Physical Environment
  7. Business/Career
  8. Investments/Money
  9. Spiritual
  10. Social Contribution
  11. Intellectual Legacy
now consider these parts of each of the 11:
  1. The Big Why - why do I want this thing, this category of life? write down the answer
  2. how would it feel in the body to really get a win in this category of life?
  3. how would it feel in the body to complete just a tiny step in the right direction, in this category of life?
  4. how would it feel in the body to (in general) be active in this category of life?
  5. how would it feel in the body to have a little triumph of overcoming a little challenge/a little irritation in this category of life?
the feeling in the body is the important part, because we don't want to deal with dry abstractions with these important things
Yes, very good Manuel Moe.
Each of the goals is a worthy endeavor, and you have a framework for the method/means for each.
Yes Manuel_Moe this looks exciting. I do love a good project and admire your ability to tackle this.
Somewhat envious with your ability. After therapy today I feel some breaking down of the walls I have put up.
I am hoping you will keep us updated as very interested. Also would like to learn how you approach the steps to each one.
  • Spiritual
  • Social Contribution
  • Intellectual Legacy
go through them one by one:
  • Health - good: took little walk outside yesterday, bad: snacking on junk food in attempt to always feel full and use food to waste time
  • Family and Friends - good: preparing birthday present for friend, it is on it's way
  • Romance - urgh...
  • Personal Growth - good: mainly researching ADHD
  • Fun and Recreation - urgh... ...maybe playing with "Finch" app
  • Clean, neat, uncluttered, organized Physical Environment - urgh...
  • Business/Career - hard at work
  • Investments/Money - hard at work
  • Spiritual - maybe "Growing up Christian" podcast, but nothing formally
  • Social Contribution - urgh...
  • Intellectual Legacy - double urgh...
Manuel Moe, thank you for the update. I've been looking forward to such an update.
You've made lots of progress!
Even an "ugh" is progress; and it is honest.
Well done for the walk yesterday, and preparing your friend's birthday gift.
Mental Fairy, good to hear from you. I am well, thank you. In large part because, this week, I took inspiration from you and your posts:
1. I re-read "The Body Keeps the Score". "Instant classic" is overused, but applies here. A timeless icon, it feels like it has been out forever, though it has been no more than ten.
I put it on my personal Rushmore, including "Man's Search for Meaning", "The Road Less Traveled", and "Iron John".
It gives new, fresh insights with each re-reading.
2. Remembering your post that medical professionals WANT us to lean on them, I called my dentist for an emergency appointment on Friday: something feels off, and few things can wreck mental health like dental pain.
It is a very serious matter. It can also make a weekend very long, in a bad way.
Your posts are making a real difference.
Manuel Moe
Can I ask if you prioritise aspects of that list or all at once?
I’m going to have a crack at it!
