Curious - Who is still looking at this forum? Anyone?

This is a great way to begin using the site and to give us a chance to get to know you. We can't connect with you if we don't know what's going on with you!

RiverGirl, if you want to try Paul's paid Discord, I can make a donation and gift you a few months membership to try it out, goes to the go cause of helping out Paul. Like Troebia says, it is not better or worse, just different, it attracts a certain type of person. if you have what I would call "gen X" sensibilities and don't mind "sharp elbows" and think everyone can just act like an adult and wear their "big boy pants", might not be a perfect fit, is a delicate way of putting it

Hi troebia & manuel_moe_g!

Thanks to both of you for the replies and explanations. I feel like a foolish Rip Van Winkle waking up from a long sleep and realizing that the world (and this forum) have moved on. I wish I had checked in more often.

Manny, I would never blame you for issues with any iteration of the forum. You've done an amazing job for so many years, and I'm grateful to you, and to Paul for making the forum available in the first place. I would understand if Paul decided not to continue to be associated with a forum at all given the liabilities. And thank you so much for offering to donate so I can try out the discord forum (you're a peach) I wouldn't mind subscribing but so far it doesn't sound like a good fit for me.

Troebia, I'm sorry the discord channel and other online forums haven't served you well. It seems all too easy to find brief and shallow connections in real life and online, so if that's been your experience I understand why you would opt out. I also read snoringdog's comment that there isn't much interest in poetry and art on the discord forum, so that's disheartening as well. :(
I'm not meaning to discount the experience of others who may prefer the new format, of course.

It's so good just to know that both of you and snoringdog are still around in your parts of the world, and I hope to get in touch with mental fairy as well.

I'll check in again in case there are any future posts here, but in the meantime warm well wishes to all.

Hi Manny,

The Discord thing hasn't turned out to be a good fit for my way of expression, and especially one of the extremely active members seems to not appreciate any of my interactions. In a normal IRL situation this would easily be managed by just sitting at different tables or going to other "bars", but online it's more complicated to navigate.

I won't post or take part in more discussion on the Discord server. I wish you well and I thank you for the opportunity to participate. If anything new comes up regarding open, free mental discussion spaces please let me know. I'll try to check in here on this forum from time to time.

Regards,
Troebia

Hello RiverGirl,

I sent you a PM a few days ago, not sure if you saw it.

Now that there's a new Pope, maybe we can give this site it's Last Rites.

I'm still going to post occasionally here. It's sort of liberating to know that almost nobody except a select few will actually read these posts, and some way down the line they'll pull the plug on this forum without warning.
